Our Approach
The Reggio Emilia Educational Philosophy
The Reggio philosophy evolved from the unique cultural and social context alive in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Our goal is to adapt the core values found in their programs to fit our thriving community here in the East Bay of California.
Teachers utilize our environment by purposefully organizing and arranging materials so that the space is most conducive to learning.
Children use many languages to communicate and all are an insight into their current learning, growth, and understanding. Among these are language, art, and play.
Butterfly Classroom
Ages 4 - 17 Months
Like little butterflies, our infants are growing and discovering at their own pace. Through warm care, music, and exploration, we nurture their earliest steps toward connection and wonder.
What to expect in the infant room:
Lesson plans are thoughtfully designed for two age groups — the Caterpillars (4–12 months) and Butterflies (13–17 months).
Activities are facilitated as a group, encouraging collaboration, connection, and shared discovery.
A primary caregiver system fosters secure attachments through consistent, responsive care.
Ladybug Classroom
Ages 18 - 36 Months
The Ladybug Class invites toddlers to explore their world with wonder. Through hands-on experiences and open-ended play, children begin to express ideas, solve problems, and build confidence as capable learners.
What to expect in the toddler room:
Encourages independence through hands-on exploration, self-help skills, and daily routines that build confidence.
Supports language growth with songs, stories, and rich conversations that help toddlers express themselves and connect with others.
Fosters social-emotional development as children learn to share, take turns, and build friendships in a caring community.
Invites curiosity and creativity through open-ended play, sensory experiences, and Reggio-inspired activities tailored to each child’s interests.
Project Approach
What is Project-Based Learning?
It is a pedagogical approach that allows children to construct knowledge over time by working alongside peers and teachers.
Children's ideas, questions, and interests drive the development of the project, allowing them to have much-needed agency over their own learning.
The children engage in an in-depth study of a topic that is of particular interest to the group. During this time they will use a multifaceted approach that allows the child to utilize many areas of development while investigating the topic.

Diversity
Anti-Bias Education Work
Seedlings Infant and Toddler Center is shaped by a deep-seated belief in the importance of justice, the dream of each child being able to achieve all they are capable of. As such we weave anti-bias work into all parts of our curriculum, enrollment, and structures.
Cultural Infusion
In accordance with the above philosophy, we have implemented specific programs to infuse our curriculum with different cultures. We provide a Spanish immersion program with the help of our bilingual teachers, as well as through books, songs, and daily interaction.
